What Are Teeth Whitening Kits?

By Andrew E. Jacobsen

Being the proud owner of a lovely set of bright white teeth is what a lot of us yearn for and luckily for us, nowadays being able to improve our smile has become very easy and cheap to do. We no longer need to make a very expensive visit to our dental surgeon to achieve the look that we require.

Teeth whitening kits can come in a gel or toothpaste form, and some can even be brushed on from a stick. Some of them simply help to remove stains from tartar build up or from smoking, but do not always physically whiten the teeth.

The very cheapest options available to us are the whitening toothpaste products. Many of the leading brands of toothpastes have developed a whitening range of their own and very often cost only slightly over the average price.

Teeth whitening kits are so very easily available in drug stores and malls that anybody can now have the access to use them, not only people who can afford private dentistry. Prices range hugely from a few dollars to a few hundred. To use the kits, a specially shaped gum shield that fits neatly over your teeth is firstly filled with the whitening agent and then left over the teeth for sometimes half an hour and sometimes much longer.

Some issues that effect long-term users of teeth whitening products have reported that because of the prolonged use, their teeth have been extremely sensitive to hot and cold conditions and they have to drink through a straw, so as not to give pain to their teeth. The abrasive agents in the kits are very damaging to the enamel so are best used sparsely.

Home whitening kits are never as effective as a professional dental whitening procedures, namely because the home kits contain a lot less hydrogen peroxide in them. For better, longer lasting results it will always be safer to pay a little more and visit your dentist. - 30292
