By Edward Jacobsen

There are many types of cosmetic dentistry available today. Individuals have the option to have a procedure done that will provide them with a more comfortable smile. Or, they may decide to address an issue with their teeth that has been present since childhood and seek the assistance of cosmetic dentistry.

Many of these people choose a smile makeover. A cosmetic dentist is able to repair and manipulate the teeth to provide a person with a brighter smile through the use of many unique methods and procedures. The procedures address issues such as stained teeth, crooked teeth, broken teeth, and other problems that have caused an individual to have low self esteem.

During the initial examination the dentist will evaluate all of the problems that have been presented by the patient as well as issues that may have not been noticed. They will also examine the causes for the problems that a person has with their smile. Following this examination the dentist will meet with the patient to discuss the type of treatment that will be best for them.

In many cases there will be several different treatment plans available based on the budget of the individual seeking treatment. An individual may need extensive treatment for an important issue or only need to have their teeth whitened. The dentist will be able to break each treatment option down into a structure that will provide the patient with the treatment they need in a way that will fit an individual's budget.

The length of time for some treatments, like a smile makeover, can take several visits. A dentist may need to create porcelain veneers, sculpt the teeth or provide crowns and inlays to restore the teeth to their natural beauty. Many of the procedures will include the use of equipment that has been designed specifically for the treatment that is being performed.

When a person is scheduled for teeth whitening their treatment procedures for a smile makeover have been completed. This is the last step that most people take in their makeover. The procedure usually can be accomplished in one appointment to the cosmetic dentist and involves the use of lasers and other materials that remove staining and yellowing from the teeth.

Many people have very busy lifestyles and the cosmetic dentist will create a treatment plan and appointments to fit the needs of their patient. In most cases a dentist will work on weekends in order to accommodate patients who work.

It is important to visit a regular dentist at least twice yearly for regularly check-ups. However, when one needs cosmetic dentistry they will normally see that dentist over a period of several weeks one time a year. Teeth whitening lasts for several months and then a person will want to return to have this procedure performed again. - 30292
