A person who has a family with a history of early tooth loss is probably going to have more problems than someone who does not. However, a family history of healthy teeth does not mean that this person will be without any problems. Like any controversy, the current debate with the Food and Drug Administration and the American Dental Association started with the minority of people that have a lot of problems.

Over the counter teeth-whitening products can be difficult for some people to use because they do not follow directions carefully. They might not entirely understand everything and make one false move the ruins everything for them. For example, they might assume that they can double the dosage and have no problems. Or, they might be used to doing something in a dentist's office and tried to combine that effort at home with detrimental results. There also many people who tried to double up on various kinds of whitening agents such as using natural as well as chemical bleaching. If of course, some people are so crazy that they will use three or four different methods.

Avoiding Loss

It is popularly assumed that if something is sold over the counter it is always safe. However, these products contain active ingredients that are actually very harsh. Of course, this varies depending on which product that you use. For example, the corrosive agent that produces the bleaching part of the substance is only part of the solution. The other active ingredient will involve some sort of abrasive. Of course, each company varies in their formula. For this reason, you will want to visit your dentist first before you decide upon which product is best for you.
