Cosmetics - Far More Revealing

By Trisha Martill

When people talk cosmetics, most people instantly think of makeup. They write off cosmetics as being one-dimensional. People just don't understand that cosmetics cover so much more than makeup. In fact makeup is just one aspect that falls under this category. It covers everything from makeup to microdermabrasion and sunscreen to acne medication. Because the term incorporates so much, it is easy for many people to buy the wrong products without even knowing it. The problem is that there can be side effects to using the wrong product or using a product incorrectly.

Sometimes, the consequences of purchasing the wrong cosmetics item are minor, such as mild skin irritation. Other times, the consequences are more severe, such as being exposed to harmful chemicals. While the more devastating effects are few and far between, most people would like to avoid them entirely. Luckily, there are tips that wearers can follow in order to get the most out of their cosmetic experience.

Before you buy any cosmetics or have any type of procedure done, you need to check the "warning label". Look at the chemicals involved and make sure that everything has been approved by the FDA and is not the topic of recent controversy. To use a particular product line, you will need to ensure that all ingredients are non-comedogenic, especially if you have acne or mature skin. If possible look for all natural ingredients. While on the topic of the ingredients, please keep in mind that these products, like most products, have an expiration date. While they are still usable after that time, they may not perform their tasks as well.

When purchasing cosmetics such as makeup, you should learn how to apply them properly. This is especially crucial if you are part of a minority group. The fact is, most makeup companies do not manufacture lines that support the wide range of skin tones that exist. To use these products, you will have to be very skilled at mixing and matching blush, foundation and rouge to match your specific skin colour. A good rule of thumb is to make sure that you are using products that are both age and need appropriate. Be careful not to become excessive with cosmetic products or treatment.

Cosmetics, by nature are meant to highlight and conceal, not to exaggerate. If it isn't worn properly, you could go right past looking classy and professional to looking cheap and inappropriate. Occasionally, using these products can lead to medical complications. One of the more bizarre stories would be the complications associated with the use of faux eyelashes. If these products are used too often, they can begin to stretch the piece of sensitive skin on the eyelids. Over time, the wearer may be left with a bit of extra skin that hangs down over their eyes and creates an obstruction to their vision. The only way to fix this is with a relatively expensive and painful surgery. To avoid this issue and other complications, use cosmetic products in moderation and give your body and skin time to heal. - 30292
